BTHVN2020

BTHVN2020

Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn in 1770 – probably on 16th December; the date of his christening is recorded as 17th December. In 2020 he would have been 250.

We will be marking this anniversary throughout Germany, Europe and indeed the whole world from Bonn. Celebrations are set to begin on 16/12/2019 and will continue for a whole year until 17/12/2020.

Thanks to his immortal music, Beethoven is considered to be a revolutionary artist and artistic visionary - even today. The utopian dreams of freedom and fraternity which he passionately defended are currently very topical.

The anniversary offers the opportunity of gaining a new understanding of Beethoven’s personality, opus and influence – and of contributing to the relevance of classical music in today’s world.

Occasionally, Beethoven would sign his scores and letters with an abbreviated form of his name: BTHVN

This was our inspiration for the logo of this anniversary year: BTHVN2020. The overall programme is coordinated and funded by the Beethoven Jubiläums Gesellschaft. The BTHVN2020.de internet portal provides information on what’s on as well as programmes, and is intended to stimulate debate. Why not join in?
